Configuring Juniper Devices
11. Rescue configuration
Rescue configuration is a feature in Juniper JUNOS that provides a way to recover the device configuration in the event of a failure or other problem. The rescue configuration is a backup copy of the device configuration that can be used to restore the device to a known good state.
Here are the steps for using the rescue configuration in Juniper JUNOS:
1. Create the rescue configuration: The rescue configuration is created by saving a copy of the current device configuration. This can be done using the "request system configuration rescue save" command in the JUNOS CLI or J-Web GUI.
2. Boot from the rescue configuration: In the event of a failure or other problem, the device can be booted from the rescue configuration by selecting the "rescue" option from the boot menu.
3. Restore the device configuration: Once the device has been booted from the rescue configuration, the original device configuration can be restored using the "load" command in the JUNOS CLI.
4. Revert to the original configuration: Once the original device configuration has been restored, the device can be rebooted to revert to the original configuration.
By using the rescue configuration, administrators can quickly recover from failures and other problems, reducing downtime and minimizing the impact on the network. Additionally, the rescue configuration can be used to test configuration changes, providing a safe and easily reversible environment for testing and experimentation.
