1.3 Interface statistics and errors

The following are the commands to display interface statistics and errors on Junos devices:

  • 1. show interfaces: displays the status, statistics, and configuration information for all physical and logical interfaces on the device.

  • 2. show interfaces terse: displays a summarized view of the status, statistics, and configuration information for all physical and logical interfaces on the device.

  • 3. show interfaces extensive: displays a detailed view of the status, statistics, and configuration information for all physical and logical interfaces on the device.

  • 4. show interfaces interface-name: displays the status, statistics, and configuration information for a specific interface on the device.

  • 5. show interfaces interface-name detail: displays a detailed view of the status, statistics, and configuration information for a specific interface on the device.

  • 6. show interfaces interface-name error-statistics: displays the error statistics for a specific interface on the device, such as the number of transmitted and received packets, and the number of errors.

  • 7. show interfaces interface-name extensive: displays a detailed view of the status, statistics, and configuration information for a specific interface on the device, including error statistics.

1.4 Network tools, such as ping, traceroute, telnet, SSH

  • 1. Ping: used to test the reachability of a host on an IP network and measure the round-trip time for packets sent from the source host to a destination host. Example: ping 192.168.0.1

  • 2. Traceroute: used to display the route and measure the transit time of packets across an IP network. Example: traceroute www.google.com

  • 3. Telnet: used to establish a remote connection to a device or server using the Telnet protocol. Example: telnet 192.168.0.1

  • 4. SSH: used to establish a secure, encrypted connection to a remote device or server using the SSH protocol. Example: ssh user@192.168.0.1

Note: Replace the IP addresses and hostnames in the above examples with the actual IP address or hostname of the target device or server.
