6. Broadband Service Providers
A list of few reputed broadband service providers is given below. Please note that some of these providers may be offering only wired (such as fiber or cable) broadband solutions:
USA: Cablevision, Optimum Online, EarthLink, Earthlink, Time Warner Cable, Roadrunner, Verizon, Verizon High Speed Internet, AT&T, Yahoo! High Speed Internet, Sonic.net, and Comcast.
Europe and UK: Sky, Virgin, Orange, O2 Broadband, TalkTalk, PlusNet, BT, and others.
The service providers often given free telephone line (including handset) and unlimited weekend or night calls. Compare different providers, and the features offered by them before deciding your broadband access provider. It is also important to enquire the speeds available for both download and upload (for businesses) links in your locality. For some technologies like xDSL, the distance from the Operator Exchange area to the residence or office determines the speed available for connecting to the Internet. If you use the broadband for Video or VOIP purpose, it is all the more important to check for the speeds before signing up with a given broadband service provider. Often, download speeds up to 20 Mbps are offered by the providers.
